3 steps to get in action today.

Finding it hard to get going today? Something on your mind? A lot to get done?

Maybe you’ve simply got that Friday feeling and generating yourself to finish a deadline or tending to something that really matters, feels overwhelming.😩

Here are my top 3 simple, practical strategies I use on days like this.

1. Take five

I know! It can feel counter-intuitive to take time out when we’re feeling stressed already. But the simple act of ‘taking five’ to look at what is actually crowding your head space pays disproportionate dividends.

Get a bit of paper, set a timer for 5 minutes and write down everything that’s vying for your attention.  This can be anything from lists of things to do, stuff you think you should do, upsets you’re feeling.

You’re simply getting it all out and putting it in one place for now.

Once the timer goes, fold the paper up and put it somewhere safe yet out of sight.

It’ll be there at the end of the day so you don’t need to worry about it for now.

2. Short bursts

I work intently for 15 minutes at a time. It’s currently how I write these posts each morning.

You can use your phone alarm, a cooker timer or whatever is to hand. Keep it simple.

I use one of these beautiful 15 minute glass time pieces my husband bought me as a gift…because the phone alarms were doing his head in🤣.

3. Connect with others

It can be tempting when we need to get sh*t done to think we must put our head down and crack on until we’ve finished. Taking time to talk with someone can seem counter-intuitive…as it would take too much time.

But, it doesn’t have to have a ‘big’ chat.

Yesterday morning I was upset about something and was finding it hard to focus on, well anything else! I phoned a friend and said, ‘Have you got a mo, I just need someone to listen?’

‘I’ll phone you back in 5’, she said. When she did,  she said, ‘I’ve got 15 minutes. I’m all ears’. And she was: my dedicated listener for 15 minutes. Then I said goodbye and got stuff done. 🙏🏼❤️

It doesn’t even have to be 15 minutes or even a chat. You can simply send a message to another to let them know, ‘I’m struggling today’ or ‘Just need someone to know I’m going in to my cave today!’ Then text them again later to let them know how you got on.

So there you have it. A simple menu to help you get going. You don’t have to try all three courses. Choose one for now, and give it a go.

Let’s flourish together!🤗
